My Accessible Stratford-upon-Avon

Physical disabilities for hearing, sight and mobility impairments affect more than 14 million people in the UK [Family Resources Survey 2018 to 19]. Many more people have sensory needs too and although I have no experience in this area please ask me and I’ll direct you to someone who can help. I am a powered wheelchair user, living independently, but your needs may be simple or more complex. Ask a business or organisation if you need more than they offer as they must make reasonable adjustments; the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and Equality Act 2010 provide more information.

Town map: is provided by Stratford District Council and includes blue badge parking spaces and their public accessible toilets.

Blue badge parking is free in council car parks without a time limit, but a pass is required for the Bridgeway car park, www.stratford.gov.uk/people-communities/shopmobility-parking.cfm

On-street parking is free but most blue badge spaces display a time limit – please check.

Park & Ride is located at Bishopton and drop off in Wood Street by the American Fountain.

Other car parks will charge.

Shopmobility provided by Active Mobility is at Bridgeway car park where for a donation you can borrow a wheelchair or hire a mobility scooter. A mix of other equipment is available to hire too. Before using the Shopmobility scheme for the first time, you will need to register. To do this you will need to provide 2 forms of ID containing your name and current address, (preferably a photo ID for one of the ID’s).

The registration form can be filled out instore, or download the form and filled in.  This only needs to be completed the 1st time you use the scheme.

It is strongly recommended that you book in advance to ensure the required equipment is available.

There are many events throughout the town during the year which usually suspend blue badge parking but occasionally provide alternative spaces, check to see if an Accessibility Statement has been written.

Blue badge parking bays are located around town; On-street and in SDC and private car parks. They are marked on the map which is part of the guide, at:

  • Henley Street: 4
  • High Street: 4
  • Rother Market: 7
  • Sheep Street: 6
  • Union Street: 5
  • Waterside: 10

In SDC Car Parks

  • Bridgeway Multi-storey: 13
  • Church Street: 2
  • Guild Street (rear of library): 3
  • Leisure Centre: 7

  • Sheep Street (loading and unloading area): 9
  • Southern Lane (rear of The Other Place): 10
  • Windsor Street: 8

Taxi bays are available in Bridge Street, Union Street, by the NatWest Bank, in Wood Street and around town.

Bus stops are in Guild Street, Bridge Street, Wood Street and Windsor Street.

Park & Ride drops off and picks up by the American Fountain in Wood Street.

Town railway station is accessible with full toilet facilities.
